The World of René
The World of René
I am a cursed man. I am under the spell called “The Next Goal”. I am cursed to wander restlessly, without being able to settle down, without being able to stop and enjoy. Regardless of what I finish or accomplish, I cannot sit back and take pleasure in the fruits of my work. Instead, I have to turn around and start running after my next objective. There is always the next thing that needs to get done, the next project that needs to be completed. I am like a shark who has to keep swimming to get oxygen, to live and breathe; if it stops swimming it suffocates (at least that’s the rumor for most species of shark).
Let me put it into perspective: I just became a US citizen, got a new dishwasher, finally sold that old condo of mine (which took me years), paid off a big chunk of debt, purchased and installed a kitchen faucet and garbage disposal, trimmed the trees, purchased a replacement for my beloved iBook, and got that promotion. Considering all of this just happened over a couple of weeks, one would think I would slow down and take it easy for a little bit. But no, I can’t do that. Now I’m working on buying a sofa and love-seat, shopping for a new home insurance, decorating the living room, replacing my tires, upgrading the RAM of my new MacBook, learning the new Mac OS and Office 2008, rebalancing my portfolio, and getting my carpets professionally cleaned. (I’m sure I’m forgetting something here...)
I’m always chasing the next thing, I’m striving to improve and optimize my life and the things I own. Is this a terrible curse? I guess not. It keeps me driven to accomplish stuff. Does it make me restless and a nomad? Yes.
Okay, so I guess this blog entry is done. Now, what do I do next?
The title of this movie is somewhat characteristic of my life. Huh!? Well, read below...
